Believe it or not … I had a ladder Christmas tree for several years before it got popular; I like to think I started the trend.  :  )

Matthew 5:14-16 The Message

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.

I look around my home today and realize there are more lights in our living room and dining room than ever before! I am alive with the memories of all the splendor of the many churches, mosques, and synagogues we visited along our journey through Israel and Jordan. The massive candelabras, gold, silver, and precious jewels, were wondrous to behold. The simple ones were simply elegant!

I have always loved to deck the halls, mantels, trees, stairways, and anything else I could find to wrap with lights, ribbons, or ornaments. I do it all myself, I am the chief decorator in all things around the house. If I say so myself, and I will, I am highly creative. Besides a ladder tree, for several years I had a crystal lampshade tree. Picture lampshades stripped of their covering to reveal the metal form. Stacked from the largest to the smallest one on top of the other, it forms a tree shape. Hanging from the metal form and the light strings throughout, I hung my multi-colored collection of chandelier prisms. It was breathtaking; again, I do say so myself.  : )

I look back at our trip and remember the fabulous Night Spectacular at the Tower of David. It was like nothing I have ever seen. The visual images and lights were projected upon the Tower of David and the surrounding stone buildings. My fellow travelers and I stared open-mouthed at the spectacle!

Dear Lord, may our home be blessed by Your Light, Love, and Promise of Everlasting Life, that was born in a simple stone cave, alongside the animals there, who shared their warmth, hay, and their meager abode with the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

Let there be light in us all this Holy Christmas Celebration of Christ’s birth. Amen
