Mark 4:35-41 Easy-to-Read Version
Jesus’ Followers See His Power
That day, at evening, Jesus said to his followers, “Come with me across the lake.” So they left the crowd behind and went with Jesus in the boat he was already in. There were also other boats that went with them. A very bad wind came up on the lake. The waves were coming over the sides and into the boat, and it was almost full of water. Jesus was inside the boat, sleeping with his head on a pillow. The followers went and woke him. They said, “Teacher, don’t you care about us? We are going to drown!
Jesus stood up and gave a command to the wind and the water. He said, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind stopped, and the lake became calm.
He said to his followers, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?”
They were very afraid and asked each other, “What kind of man is this? Even the wind and the water obey him!”

Jesus was tired and needed rest; just like all people after a tough exhausting day he needed a deep peaceful sleep.
But the storm and the waves and the boat pitching and rolling surely wasn’t peaceful; yet Jesus was not awakened.
Proverbs 3:24 Easy-to-Read Version
When you lie down, you will not be afraid. When you rest, your sleep will be peaceful.
Surely Jesus was a bit grumpy and groggy; abruptly pulled from a restful sleep, He questioned His disciples’ faith.
I have been through many a storm, Lord. I have seen in hindsight that You were with me through it all. Yet, I, too, questioned whether I would survive. My faith was not strong enough; my doubts and fears seemed to multiply; I was surely in a situation where I saw no hope, no support, no one there for me.
But not so; I have been rocked in Your loving arms to soothe my broken heart; I have heard Your quiet voice assuring me, “I’m right here.”
I have had listening ears hear my plight and provided love, compassion, assurance, and words of love. You spoke to me through these people.
I am in a storm right now. I see no way of survival. I feel alone, unloved, and hopeless.
But in my heart I know those words come from Satan trying to poison my mind. I am weak and listen; I surrender my belief in Your Power, Strength and Invincibility. You are too powerful to be defeated; You are too strong to be overcome. You are Mighty to Save!
Zephaniah 3:17 International Children’s Bible
The Lord your God is With you.
The Mighty One Will Save you.
The Lord Will be Happy with you.
You Will Rest in His Love.
He Will Sing and Be Joyful about you.
Dear Lord, forgive me; forgive my lack of belief, trust, and faith; forgive my forgetful mind, forgetting You have been with me in the past, now, and will be in the future. I am blessed beyond measure; I am blessed despite my fears; I am blessed even when I doubt; I am blessed that You have not forsaken me, even when I forsake You.
Thank You, Father, for Your constant pursuit; I long to be found; I long to rest peaceful in Your loving arms. I pray I will give up my own unsuccessful attempts to save myself; Only You, Lord, Can Conquer ALL! Amen
Matthew 14:22-33 Easy-to-Read Version
Jesus Walks on Water
Then Jesus made the followers get into the boat. He told them to go to the other side of the lake. He said he would come later. He stayed there to tell everyone they could go home.
After Jesus said goodbye to the people, he went up into the hills by himself to pray. It was late, and he was there alone.
By this time the boat was already a long way from shore. Since the wind was blowing against it, the boat was having trouble because of the waves.
Between three and six o’clock in the morning, Jesus’ followers were still in the boat. Jesus came to them. He was walking on the water. When they saw him walking on the water, it scared them. “It’s a ghost!” they said, screaming in fear.
But Jesus quickly spoke to them. He said, “Don’t worry! It’s me! Don’t be afraid.”
Peter said, “Lord, if that is really you, tell me to come to you on the water.”
Jesus said, “Come, Peter.”
Then Peter left the boat and walked on the water to Jesus. But while Peter was walking on the water, he saw the wind and the waves. He was afraid and began sinking into the water. He shouted, “Lord, save me!”
Then Jesus caught Peter with his hand. He said, “Your faith is small. Why did you doubt?”
After Peter and Jesus were in the boat, the wind stopped. Then the followers in the boat worshiped Jesus and said, “You really are the Son of God.”

God, I know You are not just there, over there, right there; You are here with me. You are in whatever is going on in my life good or bad, right for me or wrong for me, in safety or in danger. We are in the same boat; I just need to give up trying to steer; You’ve got it all under Your control; all I need to do is relax, enjoy the peaceful calm, trust, and give You the Glory.
God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, You Are who You Are. Nothing is impossible for You. Whether I am near or far away is not the issue, I am Yours and You will never let me go. Nothing can separate me from Your Love.
Thank You, Father, for life; thank You for the struggles and the celebrations; all Praise and Honor are Yours; You are Able! Amen
