Jonah 2 International Children’s Bible

While Jonah was in the stomach of the fish, he prayed to the Lord his God. Jonah said,

“I was in danger.
So I called to the Lord,
and he answered me.
I was about to die.
So I cried to you,
and you heard my voice.
You threw me into the sea.
I went down, down into the deep sea.
The water was all around me.
Your powerful waves flowed over me.
I said, ‘I was driven out of your presence.
But I hope to see your Holy Temple again.’
The waters of the sea closed over me.
I was about to die.
The deep sea was all around me.
Seaweed wrapped around my head.
I went down to where the mountains of the sea start to rise.
I thought I was locked in this prison forever.
But you saved me from death,
Lord my God.
“When my life had almost gone,
I remembered the Lord.
Lord, I prayed to you.
And you heard my prayers in your Holy Temple.
“People who worship useless idols
give up their loyalty to you.
Lord, I will praise and thank you
while I give sacrifices to you.
I will make promises to you.
And I will do what I promise.
Salvation comes from the Lord!”
Then the Lord spoke to the fish. And the fish spit Jonah out of its stomach onto the dry land.

Jonah was in a terrifying situation; he had little hope of surviving; but he told the Lord he would praise, thank, and make promises to Him. God relented and Jonah was delivered from certain death.

Jonah positively needed to get right with the Lord.

Genesis 7:7 Easy-to-Read Version

Then the Lord said to Noah, “I have seen that you are a good man, even among the evil people of this time. So gather your family, and all of you go into the boat.

Genesis 7:4-5 Easy-to-Read Version

Seven days from now, I will send much rain on the earth. It will rain for 40 days and 40 nights, and I will wipe everything off the face of the earth. I will destroy everything I made.” Noah did everything the Lord told him to do.

Noah was faced with God’s evaluation of the people of his day, and that the Lord recognized that Noah was a good man. Noah obeyed the Lord, and withstanding the ridicule of those around him, he built the ark; he built it according to the instructions given by the Lord God Almighty.

Noah was spared because he had positively pleased the Lord.

I positively …

think man is basically good; having taught school for thirty-seven years, I observed my fifth and sixth grade students; most wanted to be successful well-liked students; some were more challenged by nature and nurture to act out which incurred adverse reactions from administrators, teachers, and fellow students.

enjoy having conversations with older folk.

appreciate all those who have helped me over the years … my therapists, psychiatrists, and fellow sufferers of mental illness.

treasure the memories I have of the many travels within the United States and overseas.

savor the flavor of Lays Potato Chips.

love seafood from Calabash, North Carolina.

I positively …

delight in having a massage at least once a month.

flip over banana splits.

have a ball with a pickle … uh … I mean playing pickleball.

get a kick out of children giggling.

have fun chasing falling leaves.

rejoice in the hope of heaven and reuniting with my loved ones.

I positively …

adore touching baby feet.

admire people who think before they speak.

cherish old black and white family pictures.

favor getting up early to staying up late.

am pleased when someone comments on my blog posts.

hold dear all the family stories told by my family; I also dearly love hearing my husband tell stories about his childhood.

I positively …

take satisfaction in having my garden flourish and grow, surpassing my hopes and dreams.

luxuriate in hot bubble baths.

am tickled when my sister and I get together; we love to laugh!

pick bible verses that speak to me and that amazingly illustrate what I’m trying to write in my blog posts; I positively know You, Lord, lead me to passages You would have me read and help me discern the truth written in Your Word.

live it up directing young people in a play; eighteen years I was privileged to not only love teaching and directing my students during our productions, but also to get compensated for my efforts.

am satisfied that You, Lord, are using our conversations; if even one person is affected positively by my writing about my struggles and victories, then I believe I am doing Your work in this world.
