Joy to the World

There’s nothing quite so adorable to me than Winnie the Pooh and his many honey pots. Pooh is a character so unassuming, so humble, so kind, so full of optimism, and so very smart for a bear with very little brain!

I want to be Pooh when I grow up! Pooh never seems anxious, worried, troubled, or lost. Always ready for an adventure to come to him, Pooh is absolutely not a bear who must have control. For Pooh, days come and go, people come and go, balloons come and go, and if anything is ever amiss, Pooh takes it in stride and good-naturedly awaits his world to right itself … without his assistance … or insistence!

A.A. Milne, the creator of Pooh and Christopher Robin and all the other friends in the Hundred Acre Wood, was indeed a man who understood what it meant to be a good bear, and a good person. It must have been wonderful to write out such simple theology through the eyes of a little boy, a bear, a piglet, a rabbit, a donkey, a tiger, an owl, and a kangaroo and her baby.

It reminds me of a little boy born in a simple manger surrounded by animals content to be who they were and to offer simple gifts of warmth, and peaceful silence.

In that lowly shelter joy was born! The King of Kings and Lord of Lords was born! Salvation, the forgiveness of sins, and life everlasting were the gifts this little boy brought just by being who he was … a child of God.

Jesus was the son of Mary, but Jesus’ father was the Almighty God!

God, You brought Jesus into this world as You would have all Your children come … in humility. May I strive to live more humbly; may I take each moment as it comes; may I enjoy every happiness that comes my way; may I release the control I think I have; may I celebrate life and living with childlike wonder and awe.  Amen

Psalm 100 God’s Word Translation

Shout happily to the Lord, all the earth.
Serve the Lord cheerfully.
Come into his presence with a joyful song.
Realize that the Lord alone is God.
He made us, and we are his.
We are his people and the sheep in his care.
Enter his gates with a song of thanksgiving.
Come into his courtyards with a song of praise.
Give thanks to him; praise his name.
The Lord is good.
His mercy endures forever.
His faithfulness endures throughout every generation.

and he gives us love and compassion.

You will be led out in peace.
When you come to the mountains and hills, they will begin singing.
All the trees in the fields will clap their hands.

Always be filled with joy in the Lord. I will say it again. Be filled with joy.

Psalm 150 The Message

Praise God in his holy house of worship,
praise him under the open skies;
Praise him for his acts of power,
praise him for his magnificent greatness;
Praise with a blast on the trumpet,
praise by strumming soft strings;
Praise him with castanets and dance,
praise him with banjo and flute;
Praise him with cymbals and a big bass drum,
praise him with fiddles and mandolin.
Let every living, breathing creature praise God!
