Walking through the Walmart

tenor

As the saying goes … it was raining cats and dogs. I decided to go to my favorite shopping spot, Wal-Mart, to walk the aisles and see what there was to see. I got a phone call while I was there, spied a shirt or two I absolutely HAD to have, noted things in the store I didn’t know they even sold. It was fun, dry, and a great way to get my walking in as well as feast my eyes.

Yes, I could have sat at home and watched the rain, but I’ve done a lot of sitting during the winter months and am ready to get out and about.

So many recent cold winter days I’ve stood at the back window and longed to be working in my garden, feeling the warm earth sift through my fingers, and separating weeds from my intended plantings.

Am I discontented with the status quo? Am I not willing to be happy with what life has to offer during this winter season? Am I seeking other experiences than the ones presenting themselves? Maybe the answer is yes.

Lord, You know as a gardener I am so very grateful for the rain; within this natural provision of Yours are nutrients no fertilizer can match. I know You know I work to exhaustion during the spring and summer months; I should be grateful for the rest and relaxation winter offers; I am blessed with a warm home and snuggly blankets to cuddle me and spoil me with comfort. Forgive me for trying to alter that which You so graciously provide.

Bless You for knowing better what I need; bless You for the rest my body, mind, and spirit require; bless You for the quiet times You and I could spend together in communion. Forgive me for not taking advantage of this time. Your Peace is more precious than any activity of my own making. Thank You for Your many offerings of time together to just be still … and know that You are God!  Amen
