Refresh me

I stand at my winter window looking out with hope and longing; a warm rain breaks through the chill of January to wash my garden and nourish it for the promise of Spring. I’m refreshed and encouraged; days spent in the warm life-filled earth are near; I smile.

Dark days, sad days, days cold and unforgiving also hold the promises that You, Dear Lord, are always with me. Promises of refreshment, burdens lifted, and life renewed are there waiting for me eternally. What a thought … what a concept … what love is freely given all Your children. No thanks could ever be enough for the blessings You bestow. My heartfelt love and thanksgiving for my many blessings I send to You through prayer and thoughts no words could ever express. Amen

Standing on the Promises
Author: Russell Kelso Carter 1886

Standing on the promises of Christ my king,
through eternal ages let his praises ring;
glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
standing on the promises of God.

Refrain:
Standing, standing,
standing on the promises of God my Savior;
standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
when the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
by the living Word of God I shall prevail,
standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
bound to him eternally by love’s strong cord,
overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

Standing on the promises I cannot fall,
listening every moment to the Spirit’s call,
resting in my Savior as my all in all,
standing on the promises of God. [Refrain]

The color of springtime is in the flowers; the color of winter is in the imagination. ~Terri Guillemets

Winter is a time of promise because there is so little to do — or because you can now and then permit yourself the luxury of thinking so. ~Stanley Crawford, A Garlic Testament: Seasons on a Small New Mexico Farm, 1992

2 Peter 1:4  International Children’s Bible
Through his glory and goodness, he gave us the very great and rich gifts he promised us. With those gifts you can share in God’s nature. And so the world will not ruin you with its evil desires.
