Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee
Henry J. Van Dyke, 1907

Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee,
God of glory, Lord of love;
Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee,
Op’ning to the sun above.
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness;
Drive the dark of doubt away;
Giver of immortal gladness,
Fill us with the light of day!

Full of joy, we open, unfold our hearts, to be filled with Light. The Light shines through the clouds sin and sadness settle upon our shoulders encouraging us to doubt God’s love for who we were, who we are, and who we can and will be. God’s gift of Joy and Gladness cannot be hidden nor extinguished. In Praise and Thanksgiving we dance, sing, and shout with the angels, celebrating the Light of God!

All Thy works with joy surround Thee,
Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays,
Stars and angels sing around Thee,
Center of unbroken praise.
Field and forest, vale and mountain,
Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea,
Singing bird and flowing fountain
Call us to rejoice in Thee.

The Son shines and calls all creation to rejoice in You, Dear Lord, our Maker, Creator, Giver of Life Everlasting. How can we not learn of Your Magnificence, Lord, from the stars, fields, forests, valleys, mountains, meadows, sea’s waves and shores, and birdsong all proclaiming Joy, Life, and Peace. You offer all this and more, freely, lovingly, joyfully. Keep calling me, Lord, one of Your Earthly Children who loves You and is humbled by Your love for me!

Thou art giving and forgiving,
Ever blessing, ever blest,
Wellspring of the joy of living,
Ocean depth of happy rest!
Thou our Father, Christ our Brother,
All who live in love are Thine;
Teach us how to love each other,
Lift us to the joy divine.

You bless me, Father, with Your Goodness. Your gifts of joy, rest, and love, for ourselves in all our weaknesses, and love for each other who also struggle with their own, lift us above worldly thinking, transforming our hearts and minds.

Mortals, join the happy chorus,
Which the morning stars began;
Father love is reigning o’er us,
Brother love binds man to man.
Ever singing, march we onward,
Victors in the midst of strife,
Joyful music leads us Sunward
In the triumph song of life.

Thank You is not enough for this invitation we are given to life that triumphs over strife, sadness, and replaces it with songs of Joy and Praise. Amen
