Dedicated to Brooke
Not much is said of the Moms out there who make Tea for Two come true for their precious girls. Hours of preparation, baking, planning, finding just the right decorations, parlor games found and materials gathered, tea made, sugar cubes found, sugar tongs procured, and lemons sliced. This Mom did all that and more for her girls. I never had children of my own. I’m not sure I could keep up the pace today’s Moms maintain, without giving up and running away screaming for release. But somehow they find the energy. One daughter, the birthday girl, came early to help with the last minute details. The other daughter came in rosy-cheeked and energy-fresh from her soccer game. The guests arrived, other Moms pitched in, each knowing exactly what to do, when, and where. I stood back and helped as best I could, hosting the event that had now changed organizational hands into the very capable hands of those energetic Moms. If I had on a hat, which I surely should have worn, I would have taken it off to salute them.
Several of the Moms were teachers, working Moms with other children, household duties, and husbands with their own set of needs that require loving attention. They grew up in a fast paced world, these Moms, so they can cope better than I ever could, growing up in the fifties and sixties, where we were mostly let out to pasture to entertain ourselves. There is a lot to be said for that; creativity is developed and nurtured in such an environment; however, these Moms don’t seem to lack creativity nor the abilities to make, do, and surround their children with advantages most children never have. So, again, hats off to the Moms I viewed in action not finite, but infinite; I am in awe of your dedication to your offspring; may you continue to have the energy to keep up the pace and pass down love of life and creativity to your young ladies and gentlemen.
