What happened on the day after the Crucifixion? We don’t really know. Holy Saturday, Great Saturday, Easter Eve, Silent Saturday are some of the names offered for this day. I like the term Silent Saturday; it makes sense that the eye-witnesses were struck dumb by the events of the week, followed by the horror of Jesus’ torture, and the ultimate blow, the death of Jesus on the cross.
Tired, cranky, exhausted from lack of sleep, spent emotions, depleted energy, devastated souls, they were surely silent; Jesus, their teacher, was silent; all any mortal could do at that point is try to rest as they surely reflected upon the events of the past week.
I will be silent, too, in my conversation with You, Dear Lord. Help me reflect, rest, and remember. Amen
Happy Easter
