I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!

Yesterday at Pickleball, I ran to hit the wiffle ball before it went out-of-bounds; it wasn’t even a game; I was just practicing, hitting balls with a friend; nothing out of the ordinary, just trying to improve my shots. I slipped and went into a belly flop dive onto the court. I am sure it was not a graceful fall at all! It happened so quickly; I knew my knee hit the floor hard; my left hand also absorbed part of my weight; shaky, I rolled over onto my back and hugged my knee. Nothing was broken, but upon standing, I pushed up my pants to see my knee had two scrape burns that were stinging and bleeding. Now, I am not an athlete by any means; falling during an activity is not something I do on a regular basis; I was shook up. Playtime was over for me! I was sore last night, but today my body has bounced back; as I bounced back from the court floor!

I was having fun playing with my friends, then an unforseen fall changed the course of play for me. Uncomfortable consequences altered my plans; blood, sweat, and pain dictated future activity. I went home.

Dear Lord, throughout my life, major and minor setbacks have redirected my plans, my activities, my attitudes, my emotions. You are there; of that I am convinced! Each time I reach out my hand, You are there. When I don’t have time to reach for You, Your arms are already holding me up! I could have broken a bone yesterday; near misses while driving, slips downstairs, trips on sidewalks, slips in and out of the tub, all minor that could have been major. I have felt Your protection; I have known Your hand held me up or lifted me away from hard falls; wrecks, fender-benders, and bumper-thumpers, averted in the blink of Your eye; I don’t even know how You stopped those! More mind-blowing is Your attention to my minor events, while simultaneously attending minor, major, life-beginning, life-ending situations everywhere! What an Amazing God You Are! Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent, words used to describe Your all-knowing, ever-present, and all-powerful nature. These words are just that; a human attempt to describe the indescribable. Thank You, Dear Lord, that You are mindful of me, even when there are so many other souls in need of Your care. Bless You, Heavenly Father, for the great love You have for every one of Your children! Even the least problem You address as if no other soul comes before another. I am humbled by Your Fatherly concern, care, protection, and love before birth’s first inhale, into death’s exhale, and on into Glory’s first gasp of Heavenly Delight. Thank You, thank You, thank You is … and never will be … enough! Amen

You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance. Psalm 32:7

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makes me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8

Psalm 91:1-16  International Children’s Bible

Those who go to God Most High for safety
will be protected by God All-Powerful.
I will say to the Lord, “You are my place of safety and protection.
You are my God, and I trust you.”
God will save you from hidden traps
and from deadly diseases.
He will protect you like a bird
spreading its wings over its young.
His truth will be like your armor and shield.
You will not fear any danger by night
or an arrow during the day.
You will not be afraid of diseases that come in the dark
or sickness that strikes at noon.
At your side 1,000 people may die,
or even 10,000 right beside you.
But you will not be hurt.
You will only watch what happens.
You will see the wicked punished.
The Lord is your protection.
You have made God Most High your place of safety.
Nothing bad will happen to you.
No disaster will come to your home.
He has put his angels in charge of you.
They will watch over you wherever you go.
They will catch you with their hands.
And you will not hit your foot on a rock.
You will walk on lions and cobras.
You will step on strong lions and snakes.
The Lord says, “If someone loves me, I will save him.
I will protect those who know me.
They will call to me, and I will answer them.
I will be with them in trouble.
I will rescue them and honor them.
I will give them a long, full life.
They will see how I can save.”

Be Not Dismayed Whate’er Betide

Author: Civilla D. Martin (1904)

Be not dismayed whate’er betide,
God will take care of you;
Beneath His wings of love abide,
God will take care of you.

God will take care of you,
Through every day,
O’er all the way;
He will take care of you,
God will take care of you.

Through days of toil when heart doth fail,
God will take care of you;
When dangers fierce your path assail,
God will take care of you.   Chorus

No matter what may be the test,
God will take care of you;
Lean, weary one upon His breast,
God will take care of you.   Chorus
