I went to a baby shower yesterday. It was different from any I’d been to for many reasons; the decorations were all hand-made out of pages from Nursery Rhyme books; as a former teacher that pleased me to no end; so many children these days have no background of the lessons embedded in those sweet stories; the old pictures connect small children with history and historical customs and apparel; refreshments were each represented by a children’s book, for The Hungry Caterpillar, grapes were skewered in a chain with bug eyes on the head grape; chicken sandwiches accompanied Chicka Chicka; buffalo dip roared next to Where the Wild Things Are, and of course, my favorite, a plate of chocolate chip cookies, proudly displayed for the book When You Give a Mouse a Cookie! When you give a room full of ladies and girls a plate of chocolate chip cookies … they disappear in the blink of an eye!
We girls made blocks for the new baby and wrote prayers and verses for the new Mommie to share with her little angel-a sweet touch! The opening of presents at a baby shower always amaze and astound me; one gift was a set of spoons that change colors if the spoonful is too hot for baby’s new tongue! Back in my day … we babies just learned what was hot and what was not; we waved our hands over out mouths; no language necessary, Mommie knew to blow over the spoon! The most remarkable gift was the new Mommie’s sister made by hand-a quilted play mat! I was in awe of all the talent displayed throughout the room; all to welcome a new little life into the family!
This shower was for a soon to be adopted baby. Again, a new experience for me. This precious baby boy or girl will most definitely be welcomed with open minds, hearts, and a love so very warm and tender! No child could find a new family who love and honor You more, Dear Lord. I know that You know that, and are preparing their hearts and minds for the new tasks they will undertake as parents. I admire their trust in You, Lord, that all GOOD is possible for their new family and that all they need will be provided and cared for in ways only You can accomplish!
Thank You, Heavenly Father, for allowing me to participate in the celebration and anticipation of one of your special angels! I pray-I know-that You have their new family in Your Loving Arms! Thank You, and Bless You for Your Love, Honor, and Glory that will shine from this precious journey for the soon to be Parents and GRANDparents! A most sweet Amen !!
Jesus Loves Me, This I Know
Author: Anna Bartlett Warner 1859
Jesus loves me, this I know,
for the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to him belong;
they are weak, but he is strong.
Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me!
Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.
Jesus loves me, this I know,
as he loved so long ago,
taking children on his knee,
saying, “Let them come to me.” Refrain
Teach a child to choose the right path, and when he is older, he will remain upon it. Proverbs 22:6 The Living Bible
