What else can I do?

Have you ever tried and tried to make a relationship right? I have. Am I trying too hard? I guess. Why is there nothing coming back? All I can assume is there is no interest on their part. Family relationships have never been easy for me. I desire close ties; I hope for reunion; I pray for peace. My prayers seem thwarted at every turn. Why?

I end up blaming myself. I’m tired of that. Hmmm … You just spoke to me, Dear Lord. I heard it loud and clear. You must feel the way I’m feeling constantly! Your children turn their backs on You; Your children take and give back nothing; You try and try again; You get little to no response; What else can You do?

Ok, I hear You, Dear Lord; You are telling me You’ve stood at so many doors and knocked and knocked and knocked and knocked; You stand there still. Oh my goodness gracious, what patience You have! I have one mere lifetime of knocking; You have been knocking over and over from the beginning of time! Yet, You stand ready.

What do You do besides standing there? Do You cry? Does Your heart ache? Your promise is that You are with us all; even when uninvited, unwanted, unloved. How Your heart must grieve at the loss of relationships that might have been; how Your heart must break over and over again as Your Magnificent gifts of life, beauty, grace, truth, are taken for granted-even mocked and scorned!

What am I to learn from You today, Dear Lord? I am not You, I am only human. I can’t see the big picture; I can’t know the hearts of those I long to love, share life’s experiences, laugh, cry, giggle, dance, sing, shout, remember. Help me find peace; I am weary; I have knocked and am now on the floor wondering what I have done to deserve a door shut, locked, latched, sealed. You are still standing; I am in awe of Your endurance, Your patience, Your deep deep love.

stand ready to listen; I stand ready to learn; I stand in awe of Your example. Encourage me as I knock; guide my efforts; help me to know when to stand, sit, or walk away.

“Look! I have been standing at the door, and I am constantly knocking. If anyone hears me calling him and opens the door, I will come in and fellowship with him and he with me.” Revelation 3:20  The Living Bible

So I tell you, continue to ask, and God will give to you. Continue to search, and you will find. Continue to knock, and the door will open for you. Yes, if a person continues asking, he will receive. If he continues searching, he will find. And if he continues knocking, the door will open for him.”  Luke 11:9-10  International Children’s Bible

Hmmm … so You continue to knock and I continue to ask, search, knock … the door will be open for us both! If You and I both want to be with each other, there’s no need for a door!

There’s a Stranger at the Door
Lyrics: Jonathan Bush Atchinson (1840-?)
Music: Edwin Othello Excell (1851-1921)
There’s a Stranger at the door,
Let Him in;
He has been there oft before,
Let Him in;
Let Him in, ere He is gone,
Let Him in, the Holy One,
Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son,
Let Him in.

Open now to Him your heart,
Let Him in;
If you wait He will depart,
Let Him in;
Let Him in, He is your Friend,
He your soul will sure defend,
He will keep you to the end,
Let Him in.

Hear you now His loving voice?
Let Him in;
Now, oh, now make Him your choice,
Let Him in;
He is standing at your door,
Joy to you He will restore,
And His name you will adore,
Let Him in.

Now admit the heav’nly Guest,
Let Him in;
He will make for you a feast,
Let Him in;
He will speak your sins forgiv’n.
And when earth ties all are riv’n,
Comfort, rest, you will be giv’n,
Let Him in.

More About Jesus I Would Know
Lyrics: Eliza Edmunds Hewitt (1851-1920)
Music: John Robson Sweney (1837-1899)
More about Jesus would I know,
More of His grace to others show;
More of His saving fulness see,
More of His love who died for me.
Refrain
More, more about Jesus,
More, more about Jesus;
More of His saving fullness see,
More of His love who died for me.
More about Jesus let me learn,
More of His holy will discern;
Spirit of God my teacher be,
Showing the things of Christ to me.  Refrain

More about Jesus; in His Word,
Holding communion with my Lord;
Hearing His voice in every line,
Making each faithful saying mine.  Refrain

More about Jesus; on His throne,
Riches in glory all His own;
More of His kingdom’s sure increase;
More of His coming, Prince of Peace.  Refrain
