Just As I Am …

Dear Lord, I come to you today, Just As I Am!

Just as I am … a bit tired … soreness in my thumb won’t go away … hoping the beach will refresh the mustiness in and around me … warmer winds freshly salted, whipping through my hair … cool sand rubbing against bare feet cooped up too long … gulls crying out in greeting … sea oats dried from the winter winds starting to show hints of green at their base … gray meets gray days … or winter sun fun … either way I love it … shells lying ready … skies cleared of planes and dangling signs … streets lonely for cars … stores quiet for the season … miles of beach uncluttered … spotting a lone walker up ahead … no need for sucking in and pulling on rubbery suits over skin loose and blubbery … sun tan lotion left at home … hats, scarves, and gloves at the ready … hot coffee, eggs, and grits call me from bed … perched on the porch overlooking … I sip morning warmth and drink in the caffeinated dawn … belief in Your Majesty and Magnificence, O Lord, Mighty Creator, is easy … feelings of belonging to this world insignificant, yet knowing that grain by grain individual specks of sand combine … beaches grand … stranding wave-washed … I am re-created!

Create in Me a Clean Heart, O God

Create in me a clean heart, O God
And renew a right spirit within me.
Create in me a clean heart, O God
And renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from Your presence, O God,
And take not Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of Your salvation,
And renew a right spirit within me.

Have mercy on me, O God in all your goodness.
In your great compassion, wipe my sins.
Wash me from my guilt and cleanse me from my sins
And renew a right spirit within me.

Open my lips, and I proclaim Your praise.
My humble heart I offer up to You.
May the sacrifice I give be pleasing in Your eyes
And renew a right spirit within me.
