Rainbow Room

I have been fascinated with crystal prisms since childhood memories of the movie, Pollyanna. Daring to sneak up to the feared old man’s home, Mr. Pendergast, Pollyanna and Jimmy Bean find more than they bargained for; rather than feared, Mr. Pendergast delights the two children by teaching them about light refraction; when light passes through a prism it separates into the Roy G. Biv rainbow of colors. [red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet]

Mr. Pendergast helps the children take crystals from his chandelier and string them up in front of his window to catch the sunlight. Rainbow colors dance about the room and Pollyanna and Jimmy, along with my own child’s imagination, are forever dazzled by the sight!

Placing crystals on my eastern facing windowsills creates what I call my rainbow rooms. Taking refraction a step further, I built a Crystal Christmas Tree. I stacked lampshades sans their shades and attached them to a floor lamp stand as the trunk. The metal lamp frames are stacked in tree form creating a see-through tree. Tiny fairy lights fill the space as well as crystal prisms I have collected over the years. The result is a dazzling array of sparkling color both magical and elegant.

Thank You, Dear Lord, for the spark that illuminated my imagination so many years ago. I learned along with Pollyanna and Jimmy Bean all about light refraction; magic by our definition!

Delighted, awed, fascinated, intrigued, I marvel at Your Creativity, Your Omniscience, Your Joy in what You’ve created! I try never to forget You, Dear Lord, are the wonder-maker behind all that is, was, and will be! How can anything but Goodness and Love create as You do! I thank You, God, for the opportunities I have to see, hear, taste, touch, and experience this amazing life You so lovingly gave to me-to us all. I pray I am learning all I can about Your world, and taking advantage of the magnificence You have provided, Heavenly Father, for Your children to enjoy!  Amen

Job 12:7-10   New International Version

But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.
For the Beauty of the Earth

Lyrics: Folliot S. Pierpoint

Music: Conrad Kocher; Arr. by W.H. Monk

For the beauty of the earth,
for the glory of the skies,
for the love which from our birth
over and around us lies;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the beauty of each hour
of the day and of the night,
hill and vale, and tree and flower,
sun and moon, and stars of light;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of ear and eye,
for the heart and mind’s delight,
for the mystic harmony,
linking sense to sound and sight;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For the joy of human love,
brother, sister, parent, child,
friends on earth and friends above,
for all gentle thoughts and mild;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For thy church, that evermore
lifteth holy hands above,
offering up on every shore
her pure sacrifice of love;
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.

For thyself, best Gift Divine,
to the world so freely given,
for that great, great love of Thine,
Peace on Earth, and Joy in Heaven:
Lord of all, to Thee we raise
this our hymn of grateful praise.
