Bright Light?

Yesterday was a tease promising upcoming Spring sunshine and warmth. Sunlight and blue skies bring out smiles from even the most frustrating day. It lifts my spirit along with a gentle breeze that softly cools, combs my hair, and caresses my face. While bright light does all of the above, I frequently wonder if Heaven’s intense white light brightness will overwhelm my senses! Eternal bright light is somehow disappointing. Starlight star bright against the blackness of space delights me, too! Shadows of leaves against the porch columns at twilight calms day’s business beautifully. I need both! Dear Lord, You created both light and darkness and pronounced them Good. I wholeheartedly agree! Why then does Your Word proclaim only heavenly brightness, no restful peaceful quiet night? I don’t mean to question Your description of our Heavenly home, You know what’s best for Your children; my need for brightness and darkness causes concern; loving both Earthly experiences, I express my reluctance to leave my beloved starshine-moonshine behind. Am I confused in my thinking? Am I worrying unnecessarily? Yes, Your Word insists worry is pointless and shows lack of faith in Your Omnipotence, Omniscience, and Omnipresence! Take this concern as extreme thankfulness for lightness and darkness and their individual and unique Goodness. Forgive my doubts; forgive my fears. By and by limited understanding will give way and the path ahead delight and amaze as only Your Majestic Creativity can!  Amen

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day. Genesis 1:3-5

Your sun shall no more go down, nor your moon withdraw itself; for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended.  Isaiah 60:20

And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.  Revelation 21:23

No longer will there be a curse upon anything. For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them. And they will reign forever and ever. Revelation 22:3-5

This hymn comforts my questioning mind.

Light After Darkness

Lyrics: Frances Ridley Havergal 1836-1879

Music: Ira David Sankey 1840-1908

Light after darkness,
Gain after loss,
Strength after weakness
Crown after cross;
Sweet after bitter,
Hope after fears,
Home after wand’ring,
Praise after tears.

Sheaves after sowing,
Sun after rain,
Sight after mystery,
Peace after pain;
Joy after sorrow,
Calm after blast,
Rest after weariness,
Sweet rest at last.

Near after distant,
Gleam after gloom,
Love after loneliness,
Life after tomb;
After long agony,
Rapture of bliss,
Right was the pathway,
Leading to this.
