Now the Fun Begins !

The decorating is finished, though I am sure I will tweak it here and there as time goes on. The Christmas cards written and mailed weeks ago; temperature comfort returned; dishwasher element replaced by my oh-so-precious handy man husband; microwave will just have to limp along; and my burning finger has smoldered.

I have an all-women dinner party today, I need only bring macaroni and cheese-a quick casserole to put together. My husband longs to accompany the mac ‘n cheese, but the idea of over 20 women in one home is daunting, even for him!

The next week’s adventures are yet to be lived. I have been trying to prepare my mind, heart, and soul, for my first Christmas without Mother and sister Anne. No, we haven’t spent Christmas Day together always, not even regularly since childhood, but, no matter, their absence from my life will be there-no matter what. Have I prepared for the upcoming celebration in a joyful way? Yes! Yet, my dread over habitual sadness and disappointment on Christmas Day looms. I pray I’ve spent time with You, Dear Lord, pouring out my feelings, thanking You for all my many blessings, finding humor in the preparations, and delving into the true meaning of Christmas Day through Your Word.

My step-daughter flies into town next Tuesday; she brings sunshine smiles, and high energy with her. I know her presence will brighten my Christmas attitude for the good.

I have been good; I have not planned meals; I have not planned activities; I have not even begun to think about a meal on Christmas Day! I think that’s good! I pray I will let Christmas happen how it will. I ask, Dear Lord, to lead me-take my hand-and walk with me through the coming days. I hope I will look up and take comfort in Your loving presence, Your gentle spirit, Your loving kindness, Your Fatherly care, and breathe in Your perfect peace that passeth all understanding.

Philippians 4:7

I have collected versions of Philippians 4:7 that speak to me and my prayer that comfort and peace will lead me gently into celebration of the Christmas Week with wonder, awe, and joy!

King James Version  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Easy-to -Read Version  And because you belong to Christ Jesus, God’s peace will stand guard over all your thoughts and feelings. His peace can do this far better than our human minds.

God’s Word Translation  Then God’s peace, which goes beyond anything we can imagine, will guard your thoughts and emotions through Christ Jesus.

Contemporary English Version  Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.

Common English Bible  Then the peace of God that exceeds all understanding will keep your hearts and minds safe in Christ Jesus.

International Children’s Bible  And God’s peace will keep your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. The peace that God gives is so great that we cannot understand it.

The Living Bible  If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus.

J.B. Phillips New Testament  Don’t worry over anything whatever; tell God every detail of your needs in earnest and thankful prayer, and the peace of God which transcends human understanding, will keep constant guard over your hearts and minds as they rest in Christ Jesus.

The Message Version  Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the center of your life.

Still, Still, Still

a Traditional Austrian Christmas Lullaby

Salzburg melody dates from 1819

Still, still, still
One can hear the falling snow.
For all is hushed,
The world is sleeping,
Holy Star its vigil keeping.
Still, still, still,
One can hear the falling snow.

Sleep, sleep, sleep,
‘Tis the eve of our Saviour’s birth.
The night is peaceful all around you,
Close your eyes,
Let sleep surround you.
Sleep, sleep, sleep
‘Tis the eve of our Saviour’s birth.

Dream, dream, dream,
Of the joyous day to come.
While guardian angels without number
Watch you as you sweetly slumber.
Dream, dream, dream,
Of the joyous day to come
